@ 2:16 Thanks for your response however there was no hidden agenda in my post. I do have to take exception to the statement' "black squad wasn't very successful" and I'll break it down into two parts. First, from a win/loss point of view I can't disagree since the record is what it is but what the record doesn't show is we were competitive in most games we played but for whatever reason came up short. Did we have disappointments, sure. Were there a couple games we were blown out of the rink, yea I can't argue that. A good example would be first time we played HB we lost I think 14-3 and it was worse than that score indicated if I'm truthful and the next time we played them we carried a 3-1 lead late in the 2nd only to fall 7-4 if I remember correctly. It was a goal improvement and a 6 GA against improvement over the first meeting although a game we should have been able to win considering hence disappointing. Second, there's not a kid on the team who didn't improve in some aspect over the season whether it be stick handling, edge work, or hockey fundamentals meaning learning the game which are all things Coach Rod brings to the table in volume. That alone in my eyes made the season successful and where my true exception to your statement comes from.
To address your point, would I like to have both wins and the development sure and we do need talent to come to tryouts to accomplish both but I would argue that's the same for most teams. But for me as a father of a should-be-knitting then 8 year old now 9 year old kid his development and the development of his teammates out weigh the win/loss record at this point. That's my opinion and others are free to disagree and that's where my original post saying contact the coach of ANY team you're interested in pursuing a spot for comes into play. I just don't believe at this age wins and losses should be the number one priority or a reason for dismissing pursuing a spot on a team and I HATE participation Trophies so don't misunderstand where I'm coming from. To conclude, as long as my kid keeps improving under Coach Rod and he earns a jersey at tryouts I found the right coach for my knitter and I wish the same for all of you 08 parents whether it's with Coach Rod or the coaching staff of another team.
